October brings with her more than Autumn and Fall, it’s our obsession with pumpkins! Have you tried a pumpkin spiced latte or made some pumpkin soup yet? If you are a crochet maker have you whipped up some pumpkin decorations? This months motif just had to be a pumpkin!
I am sharing 12 months of free crochet motif patterns, one each month. These small motifs are an easy way to practice crochet colorwork and are quick and fun to make. Along the way I will be sharing my top tips to help you with this intarsia technique and I'll be adding some patterns incorporating the motifs. A few weeks ago I made a trip to our local Søstrene Grene where I picked up the cutest 10g mini balls of cotton yarn which became the inspiration for this months crochet pattern motif.
How to crochet a Pumpkin Motif.
You will need:
A small amount of light weight yarn in 3 different colours.
I made one motif using Søstrene Grene (10g/34m/37yd) Yarn A - spearmint, Yarn B - orange, Yarn C - dark green.
I made a second motif using DMC Natura Just Cotton 100% cotton (50g/155m/170yd) Yarn A - Sable (03), Yarn B - Safran (47), Yarn C - Pistache (13)
Finished size 2.75in (7cm) square.
Abbreviations: ch(s) = chain(s); rep = repeat; rs = right side; sc = single crochet; st(s) = stitch(es); ws = wrongside.
A3sc means 3sc in yarn A.
When referring to the chart read all odd (rs) rows from right to left and all even (ws) rows from left to right.
Chs at beginning of the row do not count as a st.
To start a new color, work the last yarn round hook of the st before the color change in the new color.
Using intarsia method, start a new length of yarn for each change of color and keep all strands on the ws of work.
If you are a left handed maker you will need to add an extra row at the beginning and reverse the rs and ws so read all odd (ws) left to right and all even rows (rs) right to left.
